The Length of your Curly Hair

By Cynthia Ramona

The length you choose to maintain your hair at can make or break your entire look. It's hard to get the exact right length. It might be just a little too long or a little too short. It doesn't matter who you are, finding the right length and look isn't always easy. You don't want your hair to be too long or too short.

Keeping curly hair short can be difficult yet easy. With short hair, no more than 5 inches long, can be easy to take care of for several reasons. First of all, because it's so short, it's always the healthiest hair possible. With less than 5 inches you are constantly getting new growth. This helps your hair to behave better.

Also, short hair tends to curl better. There is less hair there to weight it down. This can be a problem to get it just right though because you don't want it to end up looking like an afro.

If you are considering cutting your hair really short, talk with your hairdresser about exactly what you want. Make sure it's something that you can easily maintain and that will look right. Be careful cutting it too short make sure you want to because even though you can grow it again, there will be that awkward in between stage.

Medium length hair, or shoulder length, almost always works very well with curly hair. It's long enough to not curl into a ball, depending on how curly your hair is, but it's not too short that the weight of your hair will pull out the curls. I've always liked to keep my hair at this length and find it looks its best. You could experiment with layers if you want, but it might work best for you to keep one length.

If you want long curly hair you probably picture long beautiful curls. The problem with this length is that longer hair holds older ends that are less healthy and damaged. To have the most beautiful long hair, stay away from blow dryers, straightening irons, and hair dye and keep it as healthy as possible.

Curly hair needs a lot of moisture. Steer clear from blow dryers and ironing no matter what the length, but especially long hair. Trim it often if you are growing it long to remove damage. It will take a little longer to grow out, but it will look healthy.

Long hair poses some other problems as well. If your hair isn't really curly, long hair can end up pulling the curls straight because if the weight. If it's really frizzy, you could end up with a giant poof. You can grow it long, just be prepared to have extra products to keep it under control. - 16036
