Skin Care Products For Sensitive Skin

By Fisiwe Owen

In today's environment, the skin takes more punishment then in the past, but just what does sensitive skin mean? Well sensitive skin is one which is unable to tolerate any unfavorable conditions like the environment for example, and which easily gets irritated on contact with foreign materials including skin care products. For this reason, some products that can deal with hyper-sensitized skin conditions are especially labeled as sensitive skin care products.

The degree of sensitivity can however vary from person to person and depending on that, the type of skin care procedures may vary too. While skin sensitivity conditions vary, one are where almost everyone has a problem is with soaps, detergents and cleaning compounds.

Even though we can all experience skin damage from our environment and products we use it is often down to the individual tolerance of the person affected. This tolerance level is very low for sensitive skin types, leading to the skin becoming damaged very easily and quickly.

A few tips for choosing the right sensitive skin care products are suggested below, these are products which where possible avoid known skin irritants or reduce them to the lowest concentration possible. The way to reduce the effects of the skin sensitivity is too source sensitive skin care products and make sure only these are used but if you know what area your sensitivity lies in then check the ingredients carefully to make sure there is nothing contained you should be wary of.

It is still important to buy the products with the least amount of compounds that can trigger or aggravate the sensitivity condition. Do not use toners if at all possible as most of them are alcohol based and will probably cause further irritation so are not recommended for sensitive skin.

The procedure if washing is to be done is protect your hands with rubber of other type of protective hand wear as detergents are one of the biggest skin irritants. Another situation that causes a problem for sensitive skin is the sun so if you intend to go out in strong sunlight, you will need to apply a special sunscreen.

Avoiding exposure to dust and other pollutants is also important for sensitive skin care so cover yourself adequately before going out but you can use a hypoallergenic moisturizer as a skin care product if there is none specifically labeled for sensitive skin. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

For women that wear makeup, it is recommended that it not be worn for too long and that once again only hypoallergenic skin care products are used. While there is a great deal to think about if you have a sensitive skin condition, it is a matter of getting into a routine and know what causes the irritation as this will save you time and distress. - 16036
